THE STORY BEHIND GABLE CREST GARDENS

If you were to officially put a date of when Gable Crest Gardens was established, it would be in 2022, but the thing is, the idea of the gardens really started about 5 years ago. In 2017, we decided to purchase our home and begin the renovations of our 1881 Victorian style farmhouse. Our little chunk of land was a part of the neighboring farm, nestled in the middle of my family’s farm that was started by my great grandpa Dale.

The original family farm and home of my great grandparents.

Over the years, we’ve slowly chipped away at making this house our home, inside and out. Before we even moved into the house, we began transforming the landscape and started our orchard. Luckily, the house had a good base of plants to start with, but we envisioned it overflowing with a variety of flowering shrubs and plants with stone pathways winding throughout, giving it an old cottage style feel like it had been there since the house itself was built. In this time, we’ve definitely killed a lot of plants, but have learned a lot along the way!

“OUR PRIORITIES OF FAMILY AND A SIMPLER LIFE”

This labor of love has always been something we have wanted to share with others in some way or another. One of the ideas that has always stuck since the beginning was having a U-Pick cut flower garden. At the time, a lot of our ideas seemed just like a dream that would never really amount to anything due to time and just our commitments and lives in general. Since then, our lives have shifted and earlier last year we decided to start thinking about pursuing some of our ideas. In a way, it’s funny how much our lives have changed since moving back to the farm.  This shift has mostly been out of a desire to have more time at home and ultimately more time for family.  Without intending it to, this shift in our lives has really driven us into being able to create Gable Crest Gardens while still aligning with our priorities of family and a simpler life and we can’t wait to be able to share the gardens with you!
